Drug Abuse Addiction
When you hear the words binge drinking, you probably think of alcoholics. It and alcohols seem to go hand in hand. Most of us are probably under the assumption that excessive drinkers are alcoholics. This isn't true. Not all binge drinkers are, but most alcoholics are excessive drinkers. You might be reading this and thinking to yourself that it makes no sense.
To break it down let's look at the definition of an alcoholic or better yet the definition of alcoholism. Alcoholism is when a person craves alcohol and is not able to limit their drinking. In fact an alcoholic needs to constantly drink more to get achieve the same effect. Alcoholism is a dependency on alcohol and most of the time drink to give into their craving.
It is a little different. It is defined as having 5 or more drinks in a sitting. For a girl having more than 4 drinks in one sitting is too much. So according to this definition a guy at his bachelor party who has a total of six drinks is considering a excessive drinker. Well, not exactly, drinking more than 4 or 5 drinks in one sitting is considered drinking too much. A binge drinker is someone who consumes too much alcohol three or more times over a course of two weeks. The guy who drank a lot at his bachelor party, but doesn't drink like that again is not considered a binge drinker, but what he did at his party could be consider as such.
This is a common phrase that is used to describe a lot of college students. In fact each year there are nearly 1700 college students who die as a result of consuming too much alcohol. Nearly half of college students admit to excessive drinking a number and some even admit to drinking too much on a routine basis throughout the week. Does this mean that half of the today's college students are alcoholics? Again no, but it could be a warning sign for them if they continue with that behavior and develop a dependency on alcohol.
It can affect anyone, even you. You may find yourself out with friends for drinks and begin to lose count because you are having such a good time. It is when you begin to drink too much alcohol repeatedly day in and day out that a problem could be arising.
If you start to find yourself making a habit of binge drinking, get yourself help. It can make you dependent on alcohol because your body becomes use to drinking and wants more. By recognizing what the pattern of drinking is and if you have become accustomed to drinking too much this allows you to get help before your drinking gets out of control.
