Answer this question: \"When is the last time you pulled all of your employees together and asked them for ideas on how your company can increase sales, improve service or enhance product quality?\" I\'m always surprised how few business leaders regularly solicit ideas from their employees on how to improve the organization. That\'s one of the best sources for ideas. Those are the people who are working on the front line, and interacting with customers.

And, \"When is the last time you picked up the telephone and asked five or ten of your best customers what they like most about your business, and what steps they feel your organization can take to better meet their needs?\" This is simple. Number one, it will give you information you need to improve your organization. Second, it will create stronger customer loyalty because customers realize you truly care about their needs. And third, it might just generate additional sales from customers who have an immediate need, but have not contacted you recently.

And, \"When is the last time you challenged your vendors to help you come up with a lower cost solution to some of your basic supplies?\" Never forget this statement: \"He who writes the check is the boss.\"\r Your vendors have a vested stake in the success of your organization. Why not involve them in helping solve some of your critical challenges. Together, you can develop a solution that will mutually benefit both.

One of the greatest lessons I\'ve learned in business is that I don\'t have all of the answers. I also learned that the answers are out there. And, I\'ll tell you who has those answers. It is your customers, your employees, your vendors, your mentors, your mastermind group, and anyone else who will take a couple of minutes to share their opinions.

Here\'s your action plan:

1) Identify objectives you would like to achieve. (e.g.: increase sales, reduce costs, improve service, etc.)

2) Build a list of key questions you can ask which will move you closer to achieving your objective.

3) Identify the people who might have the answers. (e.g.: employees, vendors, customers, etc.)

4) Go directly to those people, and ask questions.

5) Shut up, and listen. I mean really listen, with an open mind. Get rid of any preconceived notions you have in your mind. Truly listen to what the other person is saying. You\'ll acquire great knowledge that will benefit you tremendously.
