Using Keyword Targeting Effectively

The keywords you choose to target play a large role in determining who will visit your website. So choose wisely! Using keyword targeting effectively can immediately increase your traffic, which has a direct impact on your website\'s bottom line.

If you do not have a domain yet, then you should take keywords into consideration when you choose one.
\r If your main keyword phrase is in the domain name, it will have two main advantages. First, it will gain a slight boost in the search engine rankings for the term. Even if your site is targeted towards one specific keyword phrase, you should seek to optimize it for several related phrases as well. This is referred to as theme-based targeting, and can quickly turn your site into an authority on your chosen topic or niche. It also greatly expands the possibilities for generating revenue from your site, because it increases the number of pages, gets more terms ranked in the search engines, and can lengthen the average stay of visitors who look at the related material you have made available.

As a general strategy for optimizing your web pages for specific keywords, you can use the keyword in the page\'s title tag, header tag, meta tag, body tag, alt tag, anchor tag, and comment tag. For on-page optimization, try to have a high keyword density (the proportion of the keyword phrase in comparison to all\r content on a given page), somewhere along the lines of 6-8%. At the same time, make sure the content is still readable for your human audience! It has to be effective both for the search engine bots and your loyal visitors.

Once your web page is optimized in this manner, you can increase your keyword targeting effectiveness with a linking strategy. You will get better rankings in the search engines for your chosen keywords if other websites give you inbound links using the keywords as the anchor text.
