The Roadmap To Lean Six Sigma Training And Beyond

An organization planning to conduct Lean Six Sigma training should also focus on providing the right channels of communication in order to ensure the smooth flow of information between the trainers, trainees and other entities associated with the project. Explained below are some of the other factors that need to be considered for ensuring the successful completion of Lean Six Sigma training.

Management Involvement

Employees generally try to resist change. It is highly unlikely that they will lend their full cooperation and support while the training is being conducted. This problem is compounded because Lean training is often conducted by trainers hired from outside. Such trainers often fail to get the attention and respect of the employees, something that makes it quite difficult for them to present their views to the audience in an effective manner.

The only way of resolving this issue is to get the involvement of departmental heads and top management who command enough respect among the employees and with whom employees are more comfortable.

How Can Management Help Employees?

Now, it is not being suggested that top management should be present in each and every training session; all that is needed is a brief presence, about once or twice in a week, depending on the overall duration of the training. Management not need to teach the technical material, because that can be done more effectively by the trainer; all they need to do is to concentrate on the big picture, such as informing the employees about its benefits.

They can also spend some time on getting feedback from the employees regarding their experience with the training and what they think can be done to improve the existing training methods and conditions. Such sessions, when conducted along with the main technical training, will go a long way in making the employees more comfortable with the idea.

Looking Beyond Lean Six Sigma Training

Lean Six Sigma training will prove to be a success only when employees become fully aware about the scope and implications of Lean Six Sigma in an organization. Theoretical tests can be conducted to assess their existing knowledge, but it would be better if the organization uses practical tests as well, because ultimately it is the ability to use theoretical knowledge for practical purposes that determines how well a trainee has grasped the information presented. Testing trainees on the practical aspects is the way to go for all organizations that aim to transform their existing employees into expert Lean Six Sigma professionals.
