Since October, 2004, when the Omron HJ112 pedometer was selected as a Best Buy in a consumer magazine, this unit has become one of the more popular pedometers on the market. Let\'s take a closer look at this pedometer and see if it deserves such a ranking.

Also known as the Omron premium pedometer HJ 112, this unit has proven itself to be reliable and accurate in multiple studies. However, it does have drawbacks that may make you want to think twice before purchasing this unit.

First of all, let\'s look at the positives. Its accuracy is excellent, and that will give you a better idea of the steps you are taking throughout the day, as well as the distance you are covering, the calories you are burning. This will help keep you motivated to continue or increase your walking.

Second, it has a sophisticated step counting mechanism that allows you to carry or where the pedometer in other places besides your hip. While most pedometers on the market must be warn level after waistband on or near your hip bone, the Omron premium pedometer HJ 112 has no such requirements. It can be worn at any angle, or can be carried in a pocket or purse or even worn around the neck.

Third, it comes packaged with a safety strap and a holster. The holster allows you to easily remove the pedometer to check your statistics. That is, of course, if you\'re wearing it on your belt or waistband. The safety strap gives you an extra measure of security to the pedometer be knocked loose from the holster or your waistband.

Fourth, the Omron HJ 112 pedometer is very durable. It can withstand some minor drops, although I would not recommend doing that with your pedometer. I have not tested it in a blender!

On the negative side, the first one has to be its size. The Omron premium pedometer HJ 112 is one of the largest pedometers on the market today, if not the largest. It is approximately 4 inches high by 3 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches thick. It is approximately the size of a cell phone. If you are wearing it on your belt, you will definitely notice its presence.

Second, since you can carry it in a pocket or purse, you are more likely to forget it or leave it somewhere. Having it with you and your belt or waistband is obviously the best choice, but because of its size, that may not be an option.

Third, the Omron HJ 112 pedometer has a lot of great features, which can make it more complicated to operate. It\'s not overly difficult, but it will take some time with the initial setup.

Overall, the Omron HJ 112 premium pedometer is a great buy for a great pedometer. If you can live with its size, you will love its durability and accuracy.
