Exercise Equipment
These days we have more choice than ever when it comes to buying exercise equipment. There are various types of rowing machines available to suit all budgets and preferences.
What is a Rowing Machine?
Rowing Machines simulate the exercise of rowing a boat. They provide a great workout because they can exercise more muscle groups in one movement than all other pieces of gym equipment - the legs, arms, shoulders and abs. Rowing is good for your heart, lungs and muscles. You can get both an aerobic and an anaerobic workout. The rowing action of the is completely natural without impact, giving the user many benefits.
Different Types of Resistance
The best rowing machines use different types of resistance - hydraulic, magnetic, air or water. You need to be aware of that before choosing one. Air rowers are the most common. With this type, air pressure is used to simulate the resistance felt when rowing a boat. These can be noisy as you can hear the air whooshing and the flywheel spinning. Water rowers simulate the action of rowing on the water. Some can be noisy and others more soothing because of the water sounds. If you are on a tight budget, you might opt for a hydraulic piston rower. These offer the least fluid motion and therefore the least realistic and best rowing machine experience. The quietest type of is the one that uses magnetic resistance. Magnetic resistance rowers come without the large flywheel so you can store it more easily.
Which is the best?
Kettler, First Degree Fitness and Stamina are three very good brand rowing machine. The Stamina 1205 is economically priced (at about $199) and provides a good quality workout using hydraulic resistance. The machine is more basic than some of the others but if you are on a budget, it is a good choice. The Stamina ATS Air Rowing Machine is a little more expensive but it folds down for easy storage and using air rather than hydraulics gives you a smoother rowing experience. The Kettler Coach LS Rowing Machine is nearing the $1000 mark but it uses magnetic resistance to give you a quiet rowing experience and there are 18 different exercises to choose from. The computer on the Kettler Coach LS Rowing Machine records everything from the number of oar strokes and energy consumption to your pulse rate. The best rowing machine on the market is the First Degree Fitness S500 Fluid Rower Rowing Machine. The machine comes in black or yellow and offers 20 levels of resistance. This machine is a water rower and the closest experience you can get to actually rowing a boat. These three are certainly the right choices for the best rowing machine.
There are many different machines to choose from, depending on how much you can afford to spend, how often you plan to use the best rowing machine and which type of resistance you prefer. It is a good idea to try out the different types to see which you like best. If you want to improve your health and strength, burn fat and gain muscle tone, a rowing machine is an excellent choice.
