Southampton Airport Facilities

Southampton Airport has grown from a small airfield in Hampshire to a regional base for flights to Europe and other major UK cities. Taking a look at the growth of the airport, it's clear that this is a starting point for many cheap flights.

The airport is being used by the budget operator, Flybe, who operate routes to more than 40 UK and European destinations. With regular flights departing for Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain, there is no doubt that this is an airport that has seen massive growth in recent years.

Flybe offer flights at very low prices, which is undoubtedly part of what is attracting tourists and business travellers to this airport.

Located between the city of Southampton and neighbouring Eastleigh, the airport is in a very accessible position. For those driving here, motorway access is provided by both the M3 and the M27.

The short stay parking facilities on site are no more than a 5 minute walk from the single terminal building. Indeed, they are contained in a mult-storey car park that is directly opposite the terminal.

Those making use of the long stay car parking option will find that the free shuttle bus service takes approximately 5 minutes to reach the main airport. Prices here are comparable with other UK airports.

Arriving at the airport by train is also a very real option. The airport has its own dedicated mainline railway station (Southampton Airport Parkway), with good rail links to London, Reading, Basingstoke, Woking and Weymouth. The platform provides easy access to the main airport site.

Inside the airport terminal building, you get the feeling that this is very much a development that is still in progress. The terminal does have a cafe, plus a newsagents and various car rental kiosks.

The Departure Lounge itself includes a further shop and plenty of seating, with an upstairs bar and cafe area.

With more and more budget flights departing from here, there is no doubt that Southampton Airport will continue to develop further.

As it stands, this is a convenient, nicely located regional airport.
