Southampton Airport - A Success Story

If you wanted to fly in or out of the south-east of England than you were once almost totally limited to choosing from one of the major London airports. The growth of Southampton Airport means that everything has started to change.

Southampton Airport, located little more than an hour from London, has seen passenger numbers rise at a phenomenal rate. The airport has undoubtedly been able to benefit from its excellent location, with excellent road and rail links ensuring that passengers are able to reach the airport from various towns and cities throughout Hampshire and the rest of south-east England.

Indeed, with its mainline railway station allowing easy access to London Waterloo, one of the largest station's in the capital city, it seems that the airport can expect to see further growth in the future.

Recent figures from BAA, the owners of the airport, suggest that passenger figures for the first half of 2007 were up by more than 3% on the equivalent figures for 2006.

Almost 40% of passengers travelling from Southampton Airport are doing so for business purposes, reflecting the number of UK domestic routes that are available.

The largest operator from Southampton is UK, the budget regional airline. Their services to Scotland and France appear to have proven a particularly big hit.

It's now possible to fly direct from Southampton Airport to some 46 different destinations throughout the UK, Europe and the Channel Islands.

Given the convenience of flying from this relatively small airport and the fact that more airlines are now operating from Southampton, flying more and more routes, it looks like this is one regional airport that will continue to prove popular.
