My quest for better health began in 2003 when my second child, a daughter, was born a mere 13 months after my son was born. I suffered from Post-Partum depression. It started when I decided there had to be a better way to handle my depression, because I hated the way the anti-depressant I was prescribed made me feel. The first thing I found was Magnesium. As I read more about this wonderful mineral I discovered that the health benefits went beyond helping those with depression. It also helps RSV (Restless Leg Syndrome), constipation, it relaxes the muscles which can help you sleep better, it even helps mild cases of indigestion. These are the main reasons I take it on a daily basis, but the benefits go way beyond them. Probably the most important reason to take Magnesium is its help in calcium absorption. Who would have guessed?!
So after researching Magnesium, I thought to myself, If Magnesium can help so many things, I wonder what else is out there? So I continued my research only to find there are several ways to help depression. Vitamins, diet, exercise and even the sun can help with depression. After finding all this out I decided I wanted to share what Ive learned, because these are easy things to do to help you conquer your depression with out having to depend on chemicals to help you feel better.
If you are reading this and you suffer from depression, you are taking necessary steps to help yourself. That in itself is a huge step toward feeling better. If you are reading this because you want to help a loved one who is suffering from depression, be aware that they may not be in a place where they can be helped. Thats how depression works. It can be debilitating to those who suffer from it. Even when they know they can get help. I am not cured. I still suffer from time to time with bouts of depression. When Im at my lowest, even knowing what I know, its hard to take the first step toward feeling better.
I am sharing my research to help you so that you can live your life the way you only imagine it right now. That does not include quitting medication on your own. If you decide to follow my plan and it helps you, please talk to your doctor first before quitting any medication you are on. Quitting cold turkey can cause severe reactions that will only set you back in your recovery.
I do not believe depression is the problem most people are facing. Instead, I believe it to be the symptom of a greater problem that you are probably unaware of. That is why some of these steps may seem puzzling to you. Follow them, and you will find relief from this horrible, debilitating symptom that is controlling your life.
1. Become a positive person.
2. Keep a journal of your diet, exercise and moods.
3. Dont obsess about your weight.
4. Drink adequate water for your body weight.
5. Cleanse your body from the inside.
6. Take a good daily multiple vitamin/get some sun.
7. Exercise 5 days a week.
8. Cut out all forms of MSG from your diet.
9. Cut out High Fructose Corn Syrup from your diet.
10. Add Coconut oil to your diet.
11. Chew your food thoroughly.
Through our 11 part series, I will break each of these steps down and tell you why I feel each is important to overcoming depression. In the mean time, good luck and God bless!
