Loan Officer Training - What Vision Quest Can Teach You About The Mortgage Business

11:54 am RSS Feed Icon Bad Credit Loan Mortgage

Have you ever seen the movie "Vision Quest"? It is a great movie from the 80's. It's about a high school wrestler who wants to wrestle one of the best guys in the state. I won't go into details, but the movie is a great story of focus determination.

Anyway, one of the quotes in the movie, the one that happens to be my favorite, was towards the end when the wrestler was wondering why someone was closing down his shop just to see "6 minutes of wrestling". The guy says, and I thought this was priceless, "It ain't the 6 minutes, it's what HAPPENS in those 6 minutes."

Man, that just sends chills down my spine, it made such an impact on me.

How does this tie into Mortgage Training for Loan Officers? To me it's obvious, but I'll explain it for those that haven't been following my writings.

There is so much behind the scenes stuff going on in the mortgage business, few understand it. If you're a brand new Loan Officer, you don't even know the half of it. Veteran LO's are nodding their heads right now. This business is so much more than quoting a rate, taking an application, giving it to your processor and moving on to the next deal. That may be how it works on the surface; (staying with the Vision Quest theme) in the "6 minutes of wrestling"...what goes on within those 6 minutes is where the magic lies.

Is this making sense? There are so many other people besides the Loan Officer that touch each file There is so much other work that goes on that without this work, the application could never turn into a closed loan. Without all the preparation and work, the "6 minutes" would never even happen. BUT, after you understand all the work and preparation, you understand "It ain't the 6 minutes, it's what HAPPENS in those 6 minutes."
