How To Plan For a Great 2008

The year has just started and many people are already off-track. They've forgotten their resolutions, didn't write down their goals and get swamped in information and ideas. But if you're serious about your success you should have a plan for the coming year.

Running several successful businesses, I must be on top of the game. Especially with the many outsourcers, freelancers and assistants I employ. A clear agenda, or what I prefer to call a guidebook is the core of a successful business.

Last year I didn't plan a lot and the results weren't very good either. Of the 20 product ideas I had, only 5 of them have been developed. I've only obtained half the number of JV partners, affiliates and contacts I wanted to get - and even some membership sites got abandoned for a couple of month. Bad planning, bad business practice that can even lead to business failure.

The other business activities that are vital for success also haven't been running for the full 100 percent. For example my Competitive Intelligence, meetings with my coaches and even some seminars haven't been completed. All in all this didn't result in a loss, but it could have been additional profits.

Shame on me!

For 2008 my biggest goal was to have a solid and easy-to-accomplish agenda for the whole year. I've got many kinds of To Do lists and sub-goals, like education, attending seminars, producing and publishing new products, product launches, networking, improvement of marketing materials, automating the businesses further, hiring new assistants, implementing a new bookkeeping system etc.

Here's what I did to get my act together:

1) Created my Big Bad To Do List by going thru my agenda for the last year and writing down everything I haven't completed. Then I went over it and added all my new ideas and To Do items. The total size of this file is now 25 pages.

2) Setup a weekly schedule for the recurring activities like article writing, management, meetings, business improvement sessions, studying, product creation and much more.

3) For each of these areas I created another file with the 52 weeks of the year and wrote down what I wanted to study, accomplish or finalize that week. That's another 10 files of 4 pages each.

4) I've send all the files to my assistants, outsourcers and freelancers to see if the tasks they have to perform can be completed in time. They all got the instruction to go thru each document and send me an email with any feedback and of course the dates they're not available for work.

5) For each item that couldn't be completed because of those freelancers I searched thru my list of contacts and found replacements for each of them.

6) I negotiated discounts with everyone that I needed more then once the coming year. In total this saved me $100 per website design, $500 per product created and over $1,500 per Joint Venture-driven launch. That boils down to at least $25,000 in savings this year. (Which can buy me a nice new car...)

7) All of the documents are put together into 1 'catalog' of To Do items. All of these have been written down in an agenda as thick as the bible. The business' main agenda is 10 centimeters thick, standard letter sized. But of course I use something else for my own agenda: a Palm.

There's how you can create a superb plan to make 2008 your best year ever. Use this planning method, and the savings method wisely and you'll achieve great successes this year.
