How To Know Whether Your Teen Is Taking Drugs or Not

Despite all of your efforts to keep your kids drug-free, one day you might suspect that your son or daughter is using drugs or alcohol. Drug and alcohol use by teens increase the risk of addiction and can change the developing brain for life. If you suspect or know that your child is using drugs, take action now, because the longer you wait, the harder it will be to deal with your child\'s drug use.

It is difficult to tell if your child is using drugs because changes in mood or attitudes, unusual temper outbursts, changes in sleeping habits, changes in hobbies or other interests are common in teens.

Increasing moodiness and depression is a normal sign of drug use and abuse that very rarely gets identified as such, with parents misattributing changes in behavior to the normal expressions of adolescence. Excessive signs of depression are not normal; and very likely indicate a greater problem.

You might discover many signs that indicate that your teens suffer from Drugs; if your teens no longer have any interest in family activities or want to spend all of their time in their room, no longer care as much about their appearance, drops all old friends for an assortment of new, and seemingly unsavory friends, grades suddenly slip, you should be concerned. \r Perhaps you have found an odd-looking pipe in his room, cans and bottles in the car or rolling papers in her laundry. Or you overheard a conversation not meant for you. Whatever the signal, your gut instinct has been activated

Any or all of these behavioral signs are worrying behaviors and they do need to be investigated; and if your child is not experimenting or abusing drugs or alcohol, they may be enduring some form of clinical depression. A professional diagnosis can be very helpful for parents concerned about the health and safety of an at risk teen.

The most important thing to remember is that it is never too early or too late to take action regarding your kid\'s drug use. Parents are the most important part of a kid\'s life; your actions on their behalf can make a difference. \"Always have your kids checked in, know whom they are with and where they are going to be, and wait for them to come home at night.\"

You can never protect your teen from all of the dangers out there, but you can do a lot simply by staying involved and active in their life, by leading with a good example on drugs and alcohol use, and by having clear and understood rules on the use of any form of drugs or alcohol.
