Defined, Medical (aka clinical) depression is a treatable illness that can strike anyone at any age. It usually is diagnosed if a person has been experiencing certain signs and indications for 3-6 months, and this elements shall be discussed in detail shortly.

Now, medical (aka clinical depression) can be caused by one or a combination of triggers including biological factors, genetics, difficult life events, negative thinking patterns, physical health problems and some medications.

Now that we have covered that part of defining it, let's see exactly what the common indicators of medical depression are.

1. Irritability and mood swings.

2. Hopelessness and extreme pessimism (a negative outlook on life)

3. Loss of energy, extreme fatigue and tiredness.

4. Loss of interest in hobbies, having a good appearance and even associates and loved ones.

5. Extreme feelings of helplessness and no self worth.

6. Suicidal thoughts (in extreme cases)

7. Insomnia (lack of) or excessive sleep.

8. Inexplicable weight loss or gain thereof, triggered by eating disorders.

As many indicators as these may be, this is not a conclusive list as characteristics vary by patient, however these ones listed above are the most common ones.

Nonetheless, if you happen to be experiencing most of these and for significant amount of time (3-6 months on average), then it may be best to seek professional help or alternative treatment as applicable to your preference. (though I intend to lean on the latter choice personally).

The good news in all of this is that there are useful and helpful solutions out there, you perhaps just need to find the right and most useful ones for yourself.

As long as you are making the efforts to deal with such indicators of emotional encumbrances, then your actions should be crowned with successand a restoration to an improved mental health.

Here's to happiness.
