Drug Abuse Addiction
Traditional and drug free rehab centers focus on drug recovery through in-patient and out-patient programs. This means that the drug addict will leave the home and live at a treatment center for a set amount of time for in-patient treatments and live at home but go to classes and programs that are outside of the home. As drug treatments are changing and advancing there is now a new drug rehab program that can be done right in the addict\'s home. This is called internet drug and alcohol treatment. This is a program offered over the internet for teenagers based off a web based adult drug and alcohol treatments.
The idea behind an internet drug treatment programs is that teenagers today love going on line, playing games, or chatting. The fact that most teenagers love being online makes an online drug and alcohol treatment program more appealing and therefore more likely an effective tool in reaching teens with addiction problems. Plus, some teens are not able to obtain help in the traditional way and now at home and school they will have access to rehab programs. Right now there are two teen internet programs available, one that offers live counseling over the internet with up to ten teenagers and a self paced program that will shows teens how to really see their drug and alcohol use.
The live counseling can be seen and heard and is truly interactive. Each of the ten teens is able to see each and hear each other as well. The counseling sessions are usually an hour long, with time at the beginning and end focused on the addicts private needs and generally meets twice a week for twelve weeks. There are also dramatizations offered so that the teens can see how to properly interact with people, like their parents and peers. Online counseling sessions are closely monitored so that the teens only use their screen names and do not start up side chats. There are also places for teens to do homework given during therapy and a place to keep a journal and the site provides reports to the authorized people in charge of the teen.
Now the self-paced learning course is three thirty to forty-five minute sessions using video, audio, and questions. The first session is about alcohol and drug abuse, the second about abuse and dependency, and the third is about where the teen fits into the picture. After the teen finishes the program, a summary can be printed out as to where the teen is in his/her use of drugs, how willing the teen is to change, and what things will increase the teens risk for using drugs.
These programs are not meant for teens so far gone in substance abuse that it is apparent they need an in-patient program, but is designed for teens just coming out of an in-patient program and needs extra support or for teens that still have some control over their substance abuse or still have structure in their life despite messing around with drugs.. This is an extraordinary form of drug rehab and drug preventions.
