Exercise - Platform Treadmills

If you want to be able to jog or run indoors, then a treadmill may be something to look into. You can jump on one anytime and get a good workout. A good one to use is a platform treadmill. It has a cushioning belt, platform, motor and other features. Treadmills have become by far the most popular piece of workout equipment there is.

The speed can be increased or decreased according to your needs. The cushioning belt is usually 18 inches wide and 48 inches long. If you are a taller person, you will need a belt at least 20 inches wide and 54 inches long. Another part to look at would be the motor. A standard motor should be 1.5 horsepower. A more impressive motor would be at least 2 horsepower. The speed of the motor can be manipulated and a motor will usually last you for many years. Incline would be another part you will want to look at. If you can incline your platform treadmill, you can work on your calf muscles and do more cardiovascular workouts. You may also want a machine with a heart rate monitor.

The wider platform treadmills provide individuals with more space to run and not feel boxed in between the handrails. This is particularly important for aggressive or long-distance runners. These wider platform machines also offer a more realistic feeling as if you were running outside and free along a street or sidewalk. Another advantage is that the runner can be fully geared up and not worry about space restrictions.

Wider platform treadmills are the main stay in gyms because they can accommodate larger individuals. A platform treadmill should be steady and strong enough to support a rigorous workout. Balance also plays an important part when working out on a treadmill. Some runners focus too much on staying in the center of a narrow platform and can\'t concentrate. With a wider platform treadmill, you can concentrate more on your workout and less on crashing into the rails.
