Men can also suffer from depression. It is estimated that over three million men in the United States are suffering from depression. However, only 35% of all men consider themselves to be in a depression. Because of the male image, where many consider themselves \"the rock\" or the \"solid one\", many men fail to see themselves suffering from depression. However, men do suffer from it. Depression does not make anyone less of a man.

When you have a depression, you don\'t have to try to cover it up. Many men try to cover up their depressive feelings by turning to alcohol, drugs, work, sex, and many other activities to hide their true feelings and their problems. By focusing on something new, they are hoping to get over their depression. However, often they end up even more sad and miserable than before.

Men do not usually seek treatment when they have depression while women do not usually admit that there is a problem. However, if you get plenty of support from your family members and friends, you should be able to find a way out of your problems.

Men usually will try to hide their depression and some of them can do it really well. Men preferred to be left alone, unlike women. They do not want to reach out. Because of their feeling and fear of shame, they will try to hide their depression. Many people who know of a man who have committed suicide usually say that they have not a single clue that this is going to happen. Men can hide their feelings so well that it comes as a complete surprise that such a thing has happened. Their fight with depression is usually a silent battle they fight alone.

If you want to look for signs of depression in men, you need to look at their behaviors. Alarm bells should ring when they seem to be changing too much. For example, they seem to be oversleeping lately, or they\'re having problems sleeping, or they appear more tense and stressed, or even show more anger lately.

However, when dealing with a man who is suffering from depression, you should proceed slowly. Don\'t push them to seek help. Otherwise, they may direct their uncontrollable anger at you and may result in you getting hurt even if they have no intention to hurt you in the first place. When pressured to seek depression treatment, they can become quite unpredictable as they feel the need to cover up their problems.

In order to help them seek depression treatment, you need to let them make the decision to seek treatment. Do not push them. Just tell them that you\'re worried for them. When dealing with this sort of sensitive issues, it is better to do more listening than talking. Always make sure to show your support for them. Tell them that you love and care for them regularly. They should feel that both of you are going through it together and they are not alone in the battle.

Now that you\'ve a better understanding about depression in men, you\'ll be better prepared to help him overcome depression.
