Search engine traffic is very high quality traffic. It is also known that natural organic listings convert much better than PPC adverts. Learning how to optimize your website for search engines is a pivotal part of your internet success.

In this article I would like to go over the basics that you need to know. Previously I spent a lot of money on expensive search engine ebooks and found them to be a waste of time.

Once you have chosen a niche market it is very important that you do keyword research. The two tools that I have found to be the best are Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery. You need to find high traffic keywords with very little competition. There is no point in trying to target too competitive keywords as this will take too much time to optimize for.

I suggest that you include the keywords in the domain name. I have found that when people naturally link to you they automatically include the domain name as the linking text. Also make sure that you build a high quality website. If you do this then people will naturally link to you.

The most important part of the search engine algorithm is to get quality one way links to your website. The more sites that vote for your website the more important it will become in the eyes of the search engine. The best way to do this is get one way links from quality directories like Yahoo and Open Directory. There are about 100 directories that you can list to that will help your rankings. Also write articles and submit them to the major article directories. Include your link to your website in your bio. These articles will become viral in nature and get published on other websites generating even more backlinks.

Finally, make sure that the content you have on your website is optimized for high traffic keywords with very little competition.
