Powerballs - Discover How The NSD Powerball Works

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

Powerball is a new, addictive, multi-facetted device that is spreading across the world and it may just end up rivalling the Rubik cube! It\’s a handheld device that can be used in a fitness, sports, rehabilitation or fun manner. It can be used by anyone from young children to old aged pensioners due to it\’s dynamic, non-impact nature. This article will explore what Powerball is and how it does it\’s magic.

Powerball is a handheld gyroscope device that is roughly the same size as a Baseball or Tennis Ball, being 7cm in diameter and weighing about 0.26 kg. The \”ball\” consists of a plastic outer casing, often with a rubber grip around the centre. Inside there is a finely engineered and precision crafted gyro with a rotor that spins rapidly once the device has been started either by a rip cord or electronic starter. This all sounds very high tech, but it is a very clever piece of applied science using the theory behind gyroscopes and the principle of precession.

The basic theory centres around how gyroscopes act on the environment around them. Once a gyroscope has started, then it asserts a centrifugal force and inertia on objects in contact with it. When the gyro is spinning, a tipping action will cause it to precess and move in a circular fashion. The inside of the device is grooved near the axle, so with an externally applied force, the axle will push against the rim. The gyroscope will respond with a rolling action and the speed of the rotation will increase. You use your wrist in a circular motion to generate the force to continually increase the speed, which in turn acts with a greater resistive force against your body.

The Powerball (or hand held gyroscope) is a truly dynamic object, there are no batteries and no electricity used, unless you have a model with a rpm counter. Using the theory above, you rotate the powerball with a circular wrist motion in either a clockwise or anticlockwise manner, it\’s works in both directions. As you gently build up the speed, measured in revolutions per minute (rpm) the greater the torsion and dynamic forces acting upon your wrist, lower and upper arm muscles, depending on the arm orientation and direction of spin. With practice, speeds in access of 15,000 rpm\’s can be generated.

There are a number of different uses for the powerball that result in effective non impact exercise and it can be used by anyone with hands big enough to grip it. Due to the dynamic nature of the device, the force achieved from the device is only ever as much as the person using it. Therefore the device is useful for increasing finger, hand, wrist and arm strength as well as increasing blood flow and ligament strength. This means the powerball can be used in a rehabilitation manner for arm and wrist injuries or to help with Repetitive Strain Injuries. It can used in a fitness way to build muscle or for exercise and in a sports manner to build strength for certain sports, such as golf, tennis, baseball or any sport that demands powerful grip and strong arms. You can even use it for fun, having competitions between friends, family or work mates to see who can get the highest score.

As you can probably tell by now the Powerball is a dynamic handheld device. They have many benefits for the hands, wrists and arms being able to increase muscle strength and definition. They can be used as rehabilitation devices and help with repetitive strain injury for the young to the old. Powerball\’s are rapidly gaining a reputation as being fun, multi facetted exercise device that can be used by people from any walk of life and in a multitude of situations.

Matthew Insell is an IT Professional and an avid Baseball & Softball Fan. He runs informational websites for the Cardiff Softball League and nsd Powerball\’s, which he uses as an excellent handheld exercise device to strengthen his throwing arm. Best Elliptical Machine Shopping Tips

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

The best way to determine which elliptical machine is the best fit for you is by first making a detailed list of all the features that you want in a trainer. Higher-end elliptical machines, like the SportsArt Fitness, Quantum Fitness, Precor, Life Fitness, and other brands found in specialty stores, can accommodate users up to 400 lbs., and range in price from $1200 to $5300. Assuming you\’ve decided to choose an elliptical machine for your home gym you\’ll be faced with many different machines and brands, and it can be overwhelming when you\’re trying to choose the best machine for you.

If you\’re only just thinking about some type home fitness equipment but haven\’t decided what kind, seriously consider an elliptical trainer. You can find low cost or cheap elliptical machines with just a little bit of research online. Many of the consumer models found in sporting good stores and retail stores can only handle users weighing no more than 250 lbs and cost about $1000 or less.

So when you go shopping for a machine, do you want to buy something expensive or do you want a low cost or discounted elliptical machine? Because of the fact that the elliptical machine is a low/no impact machine it\’s a perfect choice for people who are suffering from or are recovering from joint problems such as in the knees, ankles, hips or in the back. With an elliptical machine you don\’t need to remove your feet from the foot pads so there will be little stress on your knees, ankles, hips and back.

When you go shopping online or offline you\’ll want to find the best machine of the best quality while saving as much money as possible. Generally you can save a lot more money online. Many manufacturers offer free shipping and you can avoid the middleman, resulting in a lower cost. You may want to try out a few machines in your local sporting goods stores to get a better idea of what you want when you shop online.

While using an elliptical machine gives you a no-impact workout, the resistance exercise it gives you helps to build bone density and fight off osteoporosis. Another great thing about this trainer is that you can move at a comfortable speed while allowing for the occasional burst of high intensity movement. It\’s best to look for an elliptical trainer that has a wide variety of programs preset in the computer.

With quality elliptical exercise equipment, you the movement will feel very fluid. And these trainers have also been proven to offer a lower \’Perceived Rate of Exertion\’ whenever you\’re working out. It uses all the muscles in the lower legs.

Elliptical exercise equipment combines the movements and resulting benefits of hiking, cross country skiing, and biking. There are a lot of very good brands of elliptical cross trainers on the market today.

Studies have shown that because elliptical machines optimize energy expenditure, the average person will burn more calories. The basic features of ellipticals include the drive system, the resistance system and the length of the stride.

If you\’re cramped for space at home or have a small home gym, an elliptical trainer can be a great way to save space and get an overall body workout. So an elliptical that folds away for storage purposes may work the best for you, without sacrificing any features you need that is. One of the many reasons the trainers are so popular is because they provide an excellent aerobic workout with minimal stress on the joints.

Ellipticals will continue to develop and provide an optimum workout for their users. The best machines offer many advantages over other forms of exercise and other exercise equipment. And comparing elliptical machine reviews, ratings and rankings such as in Consumer Reports magazine is an important first step to saving a lot of money while still getting the best features.

The Ultimate Swiss Ball Ab Workout

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

Swiss Ball ab workouts are mid-level exercises which allow you a greater range of motion than the usual abdominal crunch. This exercise also intensifies the tension concentrated on your oblique midsection area, as the increased need for stabilization also intensifies the activation of the muscles in your abdominals, as you do your ab workouts.

Start positioning for your ab workouts by sitting firmly on a Swiss Ball, then place your feet firmly on the floor, and then walk them slowly forward, all the while leaning back and rolling up to the point that you are comfortably lying with your back firm against the ball. Make sure that before you do the movements in your ab workouts that both of your feet are firmly planted apart at a distance of a shoulder\’s width, and then place your right hand at the right side of your head; then place your left hand on your right oblique midsection area.

Begin your ab workouts by slowly rolling your upper body towards your left until the outside of your left foot and the inside of your right foot are firmly touching the floor. Also, try to spread your legs so that both of your feet are slightly more than a shoulder\’s width apart from each other.

Start your ab workouts by crunching your chest towards the side of the hip that is facing up. While your hips are a bit twisted to the side in this position of your ab workouts, you should crunch your torso as straight as you can. Do these motions in your ab workouts until you have completed one set and then turn your lower torso to the other side, and do an equal number of repetitions with this side with the same movements and the same intensity as the ab workouts which you performed on the previous side.

Before you begin your quest towards the ultimate six-pack, you must establish a solid foundation to work on. The foundation for any workout program -whether it\’s targeting your whole body or targeting your abdominals solely- must start with a strong core. Most individuals fail to reach their goals because their weak core limits their overall stamina and strength.

500 Miles On A Treadmill

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

Winter is finally upon us, and my daily runs along my favorite path overlooking the beautiful Columbia River has come to a end for the year. Yes, I\’m an avid runner and hitting the pavement, or my case the gravel trail is one of my favorite pastimes for both fitness and entertainment. However, with temperatures in the near 30\’s as of late combined with the Gorge\’s high winds and rain nearly everyday I\’ve been forced to take my journey indoors on my trusty treadmill for the next few months. Sure there will be winter days that I will still be able to get out and take full advantage of running wise, but as anyone knows the Columbia River basin like I do, outdoor workouts that take place in December, January, and February are often a pipe dream at best.\r

\r Contrary to popular belief treadmill running isn\’t so bad, in fact it can often be welcomed retreat from a workout routine that\’s been far too long not altered. I spent several weeks last summer taking the time, effort, and money to research and purchase a top performing treadmill. Seriously, if you don\’t spend a couple grand on a good quality treadmill you\’ll most likely get yourself the equivalent of a used Pinto. If you are considering getting yourself one, do the research and spend the money. My nice treadmill aside, myself having the capacity and willpower to regularly run on it is another thing. That\’s something money can\’t buy. I guess I\’m kinda lucky in a sense that I don\’t have to lose my view of the Columbia as my exercise room was strategically placed on a side of my house where a window overlooks a hill and down into the Gorge. This fact alone makes it much easier for me to stick to my routine and keeping on running. I keep the room at a cool 62 degrees, because 30 minutes into my run it\’s about 77. I put on my favorite XM satellite station and begin to run my first steps of my 500 mile winter goal.\r

\r So if I didn\’t mention it by now, my goal this year is to put in about 500 miles or so on my treadmill in prep for the late march runoff, warmer temps, and excellent early morning running conditions. Serious springtime running requires even more serious winter preparations. That\’s 120 miles a month for four months - not as bad as it sounds. The treadmill, my tool towards springtime runner\’s bliss will get me through the winter months and keep my cardiovascular condition at its best without actually being outside in the frozen bellows of the Columbia River Valley.\r

\r Running on a treadmill indoors is often a solemn experience. No birds, no squirrels chasing nuts, simply me, my cold room, and my XM radio stations. I find it best to switch things up when running on the treadmill both for training and entertainment. Sometimes I crank the incline up, so high my lungs start to scream. Other times I keep it flat but kick up the pace and work on my fast game. The great thing about a treadmill is that the hill begins and ends whenever you want it to. This is where I take full advantage which working with a machine has to offer to the fullest extent possible. I often find it hard to transition from a tight hill to a long gradual straightaway. Keeping my speed when winded is tough for me when I encounter these types of scenarios. I now work on this situation often exclusively during my 60 minutes runs. The treadmill offers great flexibility for working on your weak spots which should be any serious runners prescription during the off season. I do my best to take advantage of the controlled environment offered to make my weaknesses my strengths. \r

\r I find running on my treadmill a great supplementation to my roadwork as a whole. It\’s a great training tool which when used properly can really help your running game and improve areas that are often hard to work when running on the road. Yeah, running on a treadmill can be boring, I love the open road and all it offers just as much as the next guy. But hey, maybe you like watching TV while working out or you simply don\’t live in an area that is conducive to training. A treadmill makes a great alternative to getting outdoors and certainly is better than not doing nothing at all. My experience is that most people enjoy running on their treadmills once they give it a try. The convenience and ease of use is often a major determining factor for most. I highly recommend a good, solid treadmill to anyone who is serious about physical fitness and/or health as a whole. It can only help you, your body, and/or the sport that you play.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Sauna Use?

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

When considering that saunas are thought to produce many health benefits and provide a soothing experience, its no doubt that more and more people want to know how saunas can benefit them.

For this article we are going to focus on the health benefits of each sauna. The sauna is by no means a replacement for physical activities, thats because physical exercise itself has various good health effects, but the sauna can be an excellent additional tool you can use to improve your health.

The benefits to the body are nothing short of amazing when using saunas. Saunas make you sweat, this helps in removing waste from our bodies. They also are beneficial for regulating our body temperatures. In actual fact several medical studies have shown the health benefits of far-infrared heat therapy.

A number of people claim that the amount of sweat produced during a far infrared sauna session can be as much as three times greater than in a traditional sauna. The traditional sauna is hotter than an infrared sauna. The benefit of the cooler atmosphere is that it enables you to stay in the sauna longer, this results in deeper heat penetration resulting in more sweat hence cleansing more toxins.

One thing to note is that the high temperature inside a sauna can harm those with high blood pressure, pregnant women, elderly people, and little children. So always check with your physician if you have any doubts or questions

Professionals from around the world, including doctors and researchers have revealed the great health benefits of using sauna heat to stimulate the immune system, and detoxification of the body, along with producing a state of general relaxation. All this is essential to the healing process and rejuvenation of the body.

Paul Hegarty is the owner of All-About-Saunas.com where you save 60%, on an Infrared Sauna, this includes free shipping.

Bowflex - Comparison Of Ultimate Models

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

Bowflex offers many models of home gyms. Let\’s look at the Bowflex Ultimate models. What are the differences between the Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym and the Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gym?

The Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym offers the leg attachment, the lat tower attachment, the aerobic rowing feature, the squat station, and a 2-position adjustable main pulley system. In comparison, the Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gym offers all of the above with the following exceptions: the Ultimate 2 offers an optional integrated abdominal crunch accessory, the Preacher curl attachment, and it has a 5-position adjustable (\”no cable change\”) main pulley system.

The Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym offers 90 potential exercises, while the Ultimate 2 offers 95+ possible exercises. In the area of standard weight resistance, both machines offer 310 pounds. The Bowflex Ultimate 2 offers a 410-pound weight resistance feature for an added cost. Both Bowflex home gyms come with the patented Power Rod no-time-limit warranty. In the event that you actually wear out these rods (which is highly unlikely considering the manner in which they are manufactured), the company will replace them free of charge.

A limited warranty on the machine itself is 10 years for the Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym and 12 years for the Ultimate 2 machine.

The dimensions on these machines don\’t differ by much, however, if storage space is a concern, then the Bowflex Ultimate is slightly smaller in size. The folded footprint for the Bowflex Ultimate is slightly smaller than the other machine.

Both Bowflex home gyms come with a workout DVD, an instructional manual and a motivational poster to place in your exercise area.

A non-skid mat is offered with both systems, at an extra cost. Place this mat under your home gym - it is essential for protecting your carpet or your flooring.

The price difference between the two is only about $400, depending on where you purchase your home gym. If an abdominal workout is extremely important to you, or you prefer not to change out the cables in between exercises, the Bowflex Ultimate 2 might be the better choice for your home gym.

Overall, both home gyms are excellent products, whether you are a dedicated athlete or just beginning to get into fitness. Both systems will enable you to become stronger and leaner and help you to meet your personal physical fitness goals.

Saving Money On Treadmills - Get The Facts

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

If you\’re set to invest in a serious piece of indoor exercise fitness equipment, like a treadmill, then help is here. Treadmills are simple to use, but can be dangerous in the wrong hands or around children. One of the most popular, if not the most popular, pieces of home exercise equipment today is the treadmill.

With treadmills you need to watch out for the impact involved when your feet hit the belt; your body absorbs up to two and a half times your body weight. Check out the amount of horsepower (HP): HP determines how fast and hard the motor will work - the lower the number of the HP, the less the motor will be able to handle. The word treadmill originally designated a type of mill which was operated by a person treading steps of a wheel to grind grain.

The deck is the belt area on which actual running, jogging and walking take place. A heart rate monitor enables a treadmill to automatically adjust the speed and/or the incline to keep your heart rate within the most optimum zone. The more expensive treadmill models will offer a selection of preprogrammed exercise routines.

Display panels should be easy to read and straightforward to operate. A heart rate monitor is a very good, useful feature to look for on a machine. Some excellent features, like heart monitors and safety keys that automatically stop the treadmill if you slip, will contribute to the enjoyment and safety of your treadmill workout or help add motivation.

A pre-programmed workout registers your heart rate without being connected to the treadmill by a cord or wire. Notice that some treadmill heart rate monitors clip onto an ear or, for more accurate readings, strap onto the chest.

Keep in mind that what feels right to you may not accommodate others around you as comfortably. When your equipment is up and running, get the right lubricants and cleaners to take good care of it. You\’ll probably want to buy a unit with a motor that delivers 1.5 to 3 continuous, not peak, horsepower.

Be aware the better quality treadmills can cost as much as $5000 and have a lot of bells and whistles you don\’t need. To make sure that your treadmill is sturdy and comfortable and doesn\’t operate noisily, start it up, step on it and test it out before you buy, if possible. It\’s important to set a strict budget and then stick to it.

Your club commercial machine may be may be a good choice in a home version; you\’re already familiar with its features and probably are comfortable using it. If you\’re planning to use a treadmill purely for walking you\’re not likely to need an expensive top-of-the-line machine. Warranties can last for ninety days or a lifetime, read the fine print.

The taller a person is the longer their stride so you\’ll need to choose a treadmill with a longer and wider belt. You\’ll want a treadmill with an aluminum or high alloy steel frame that\’s strong enough to support the heaviest runner who\’ll be using it. \r The first thing to consider when shopping for a home treadmill is what you need it to do for you. Make sure to add the cost of shipping when buying a treadmill online; quality models can be heavy and shipping will cost more, but some manufacturers do offer free shipping.

As you increase your fitness levels, a quality treadmill will continue to assist your exercise needs as you progress to light jogging or to running. To get even more workouts, think about making your treadmill into a walking, working office by adding a mini-platform to the side rails.

Make sure to see your doctor or naturopathic doctor before you start any new fitness or exercise program. Selections of preprogrammed exercise routines are not essential to obtaining a good workout from a treadmill, but they do help to provide motivation.

And remember, home exercise treadmills are a large investment financially and in your fitness and much thought and preparation should go into the purchase of any new treadmill. Take time to do your research, the same way you would any major purchase and buying a treadmill won\’t be difficult. So now you know just what to look for when buying a treadmill.

How to Get the Best from Your Own Home Gym

Exercise Equipment Comments Off

If you want to get the best from your own home gym, it has to be housed in the right room and with the right equipment. But most importantly of all, you need to have adequate perseverance in order to attain your exercise goals.

Where to Build Your Home Gym

Your home gym must first and foremost be properly ventilated. Windows are a must, especially if you don\’t want to use the air-conditioning unit. Air in the room must be properly circulated to prevent your home gym from smelling of sweat. Your home gym must also be well-lit. If possible, acquire lights with dimming controls because there may be times you\’d prefer to work out in the dark like when you\’re watching a scary movie and you want an appropriate atmosphere for it.

Space requirements are also important to consider. Make sure there\’s enough space for all your exercise equipment, gym furniture, and free space for you to perform freestyle exercise routines.

Choosing the Right Exercise Equipment for Your Own Home Gym

There are three types of exercises vital for your physical health and fitness: stamina, strength, and flexibility. Stamina exercises improve your endurance and make you last longer. Strength exercises build and hone your muscles while trimming you fat at the same time. Last but not the least, flexibility ensures that your body remains agile and mobile, focusing on keeping your muscles and joints fluid and responsive. If you want to get the best from your own home gym, you need exercise equipment that can help improve your stamina, strength, and flexibility and all in all providing you with a full-body workout.

Treadmill - This is a staple in home gym and helps improve your stamina. Treadmills may be manual and electrically powered. The former is naturally more affordable but comes with fewer features. It\’s best to work with an electrically powered mid-range treadmill model with adjustable inclination to give you a variety of workouts. If possible, look for a treadmill that lets you read a book, drink water, or listen to your MP4 player while exercising.

Weights - Dumbbells are approximately a dollar each. You should get several pairs of assorted weights because you\’ll be working yourself up. Also, there are a number of combination exercises which will require you to use dumbbells of a prescribed weight. Having at least one barbell in your home gym is especially important for men. They cost twice as much as dumbbells like weight plates cost a dollar each. Again, consider investing in a set of increasingly heavy weight plates since you\’ll be working yourself up with them in time.

TV Set and DVD player - It\’s very important to have a TV set in your home gym. A TV can keep you entertained for hours while exercising. If there\’s nothing good on TV then that\’s when your DVD player comes in. Both are also important if you like watching and following exercise and workout videos. Make sure that your TV set has a screen big enough for you to see everything clearly from whichever part of the room. Keep the TV set in a safe area.

Mats - Even if your home gym is carpeted, it\’s still better to have several mats handy as they\’re cleaner, safer, and more convenient to use when you\’re lying down and performing exercises on your back.

Exercise Ball - Have at least one included in your home gym. There are a lot of things you can do with an exercise ball but its greatest benefit is making it easier for you to perform flexibility exercises. And no, before you even ask, exercise balls are not exclusively designed for women. They can also be used by men and without lessening their testosterone count.

Adjustable Bench - This is important when you\’re using your barbell and when you\’re doing lunges and combination exercises with your dumbbells. Adjusting its inclination will help tone all muscles in your body.

Full-Length Mirror - This is very important not because it helps assuage your vanity but to ensure that you have the correct form and posture for whatever exercise you\’re performing. The wrong position could cause unnecessary strain on your body.

Weighing Scale - Last but not the least, have a weighing scale handy in your home gym to keep track of your progress. Good luck!
