No more future, no where to turn to, you feel no one understand you, no one sympathize your cry. They dont understand why you are sad all the times, why are you moody, why your mood swings from one end to another.

Depression is a stage where life has no more meaning to you. You feel so hopeless, so miserable and you see yourself not achieving anything at the end of your lifes journey. You just live a day at a time and hope that tomorrow wouldnt come because, you just dread to go through the whole cycle again.

You feel like crying all the times. You are constantly sad. You dont know why, there is nothing that can make you happy anymore. When you are alone you start to think of many things and you will cry over them. Cry yourself to sleep most of the time.

You regret over many things youve done, your past mistakes. You are upset because it seems like people dont listen properly to what you say. Why cant they understand you? Why cant they understand your situation? You find it so hard to express yourself and handle your own feelings. You always feel guilty and feel that you are such a burden to the people who want help you.

When you are alone you just stare blankly into space. You can see through everything thing and everyone as though they dont exist. You can just stare and when blank. When you drive on the highway your mind goes blank and, just drive on without knowing what is happening around you.

One day I was wondering if something were to happen, I would definitely not able to anticipated the emergency. I will just be in a daze and drive without knowing where and how all I know is drive.

Depression is a stage where I lost my appetite, I lost interest in food. Eating is not a joy anymore and I just eat for the sake of eating. Forcing the food into my throat and to make myself feel full.

Must I die as ordinarily. Must I die in vain Must I die with emptiness Must I die unknown Must I die forgotten Must I die hopeless Must I die in darkness Must I !!!

I have come to my end. The End! There is no more way out for me. If this is life? I am only existing and barely live. Waiting to pass away without a legacy

Dear friend if this is how you feel. You need help! Please go and seek for good counseling and pray to God. I urge you no matter how hopeless it may seem. If you are a Christian and you feel God has shut His ear and too far away for you to reach. You have hope! His is actually next to you and have never given up hope on you.

If you are not a Christian He is always there waiting for you to call upon Him and waiting to help you.

Jesus came and died for ALL not just for the Christian.

Natural Remedy for Depression - Is Treating Depression Naturally Possible?

Depression Help Comments Off

A natural remedy for depression may be suitable for patients suffering from this condition. With a lifetime of dependency on medication being a possibility, many who suffer want to try treating depression naturally. To alleviate the symptoms so they can live normally in spite of the depressive condition, a depression natural treatment is seen as an option to explore.

St. John\’s Wort has become a popular choice for many. There have been studies done on the effectiveness of St. John\’s Wort and the results have often been positive. Claiming it to be better than Prozac, many people who use it stand by the positive results they get. They believe nothing else is needed when St. John\’s Wort is used daily.

The positive results are due to the slowing down of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin being absorbed by the body. These three neurotransmitters have a known affect on depression. This slowed absorption rate lets the body have more time to communicate with the brain. Caution should be used in taking it with other medications as there may be interactions between them. It is advisable to talk to your doctor before starting to take a natural remedy for depression.

Good results have also been seen in some other supplements. One example is supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids such as those found in fish oils. Though they are found in other sources such as hemp, walnuts and canola oil, it appears that only fish oil contains the type of omega-3 fatty acids that has anti-depressant action. The brain uses the DHA fatty acids as nourishment and the use of omega-3 fatty acids helps the brain replenish what it needs.

A person wanting a depression natural treatment could also take several of the B vitamins. There is research that indicates that many adults suffering from depression have low folic acid levels. According to tests, people missing this vitamin can have episodes of depression and not respond sufficiently to prescribed medications due to the lower levels of the vitamin. Evidence proves that the mood can be enhanced by increased folic acid levels. Another proven mood enhancer is thiamine, also called vitamin B-1. It can even enhance the mood of people who are not depression sufferers if it is taken.

One more natural remedy for depression is 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which is a derivative of the amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is converted to 5-HTP in the body and that is then changed to serotonin. The mood can be enhanced and serotonin levels can be more balanced when 5-HTP is used for treating depression naturally. 5-HTP has also been used for other conditions such as fibromyalgia, migraines, stress, insomnia and weight loss.

For women past the age of fifty, menopause may be a problem that can affect the mood and vitamin B-12 being low can contribute to this. After the age of fifty, women\’s bodies begin to have diminished levels of this vitamin and are likely to have only about half the amount as they should have. Vitamin B-12 supplements can help improve the mood. Premenstrual syndrome, also known as PMS, can be helped by vitamin B-6 supplementation which is another important vitamin for menopausal women as well. The B vitamins can improve the mood when used singly or in combination.

Another proven natural remedy for depression that is a mood enhancer is exercise. There is a belief that this is partly due to the fact that the body can better absorb medications and nutrients when the person exercises. Exercise also seems to increase production of chemicals in the brain such as dopamine and serotonin. Even a walk in the park can be of benefit. The mood can be improved by any kind of exercise, especially exercise that one enjoys.

Another option to try is light therapy. There are people who have been shown to suffer with depression due to not getting enough sunlight during the winter when the days are shorter and there is less sunshine. Two possible answers exist to help this problem. The first is to simply enjoy the sunshine outside as much as possible during what daylight time there is. Having the curtains pulled back to let the sun shine in during the daytime will also help. Second, using light therapy with the guidance of a qualified professional may be very helpful.

Treating depression naturally or any treatment of a depressive condition, for that matter, will require patience. It\’s important to keep trying various approaches with the help of one\’s health care professional until a natural remedy for depression is found that works for the patient. It is worth trying each one, alone or in combination, for anyone who suffers with this life altering condition.

Clinical Depression - When Life Is Just Too Hard

Depression Help Comments Off

No human being has ever walked the planet Earth for any length of time without experiencing sadness, a feeling of isolation, or anger. Those feelings may be triggered by any number of events, from the loss of a loved one to the fear which arises from the loss of ones livelihood, to the sense of failure resulting when something for which one had worked very hard did not materialize.

Most people, while they may at first feel emotionally devastated by a bad outcome, are in a reasonably short time to move on and face life again. But in those who cannot shake off their feelings of loss and grief, and find themselves too overwhelmed to even perform their basic daily tasks, clinical depression may be developing.

The Fun Is Gone
\r Clinical depression goes beyond appropriate sadness and literally takes over the life of its sufferers. They often find themselves without purpose, unable to, and not interested in, getting out of bed in the morning. Even those who force themselves to perform necessary tasks like eating and grooming themselves do not enjoy it. Some victims of clinical depression may seek comfort in chemical of alcohol abuse; in the most severe cases, clinical depression can cause a person to become suicidal.

One of the characteristics of clinical depression is that it continues for several weeks or months. Because of the length of its duration, the victim can suffer physical effects if he or she stops eating, exercising, or attending to any medical needs.

Clinical depression differs from bipolar disorder, or manic depression, as it is sometimes called; sufferers of bipolar disorder move from being severely depressed to being manically happy. In clinical depression, there are no such mood swings. It may take some time for a correct diagnosis, because bipolar mania does not occur in a regular pattern.

Depression Is Never Normal
\r There is a widely-held belief that as the elderly, those who are ill, or those in stressful financial straits are simply reacting normally if they become clinically depressed. But clinical depression is not a normal mental state, and will not disappear on its own.

One of the three types of clinical depression, depression with psychotic features, in fact, can be so severe that it causes hallucinations and delusions. Clinical depression is thought to contribute to almost fifty percent of all suicides.

Given the fact that an estimated nineteen million Americans suffer at least one bout of clinical depression each year, public awareness of the signs of clinical depression and the availability of treatment should be made a priority.

Using Massage To Treat Depression - A Powerful Anti-Depressant

Depression Help Comments Off

There are many different types of depression and more people each year seem to be suffering from this illness. Using massage to treat depression can work well in some cases. A massage therapist must be careful not to claim to be able to cure severe depression through any techniques, however, as severe depression should be treated by psychiatric expert.

People are depressed for a variety of reasons. Often, depression has to do with a situation, such as losing a job or experiencing a trauma in ones life. In these cases, a massage therapist can use techniques to help this person overcome this overwhelming feeling of sadness. Techniques include working with the abdominal muscles as well as those in the head and neck to help straighten out a person who is suffering from this form of depression. Many people with this disease find that their body structure is actually collapsed due to the depression. It begins with the abdominal muscles, where the organs that store the cells that fight for the immune system are stored beneath. Because the body is in such a collapsed state, a depressed person runs the risk of acquiring illness or disease as their immune system is not working properly.

By restoring the body to the full state prior to collapse, a massage therapist can assist a person with depression to keep their body healthy. It can return the human structure back to prior the collapse. In addition to working with the abdominal muscles and head and neck muscles, the massage therapist will also incorporate working on the arms and shoulders of a depressed person.

Many people with chronic depression find themselves in pain much of the time. They are often told that the pain is all in their head as there may be nothing actually physically wrong with them. Many will complain of stomach or back pain, yet despite tests, they have no physical ailments. A massage therapist can help a person with chronic depression alleviate some of the pain that they feel that is most likely due to the collapse of their abdominal muscles and skeletal system due to the depression. While a massage therapist cannot cure a patient of depression, they can certainly treat a patient with depression and help them with painful symptoms of this disease.

Some people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndrome, also known as SADS. This occurs during the winter months when there is not enough sunlight. When deprived of light, people tend to become depressed, have mood swings or even become ill. Studies have shown that people who work in the evening are more prone to cancer than those who work during the day. This is believed to be because of the depression they suffer from not being in the sunlight. The depression affects the body, the abdominal cavity and shuts down the immune system. Light therapy is often used in addition to massage therapy for patients who are suffering from SADS. A massage therapist who treats such a patient can use certain lights that emulate sunlight during the therapy session. The lights have been known to help individuals suffering from SADS and the massage therapy techniques can get the body out of the collapsed state and into good working order.

If you are a massage therapist who is using massage to treat depression, remember that you are not a psychologist and if your patient is talking of suicide or seems severely depressed, he or she must seek professional help from a licensed psychiatric professional prior to getting massage treatments. For those who have situational depression or SADS, massage therapy can do wonders to help them overcome this illness.

Are You Crazy

Depression Help Comments Off

Our first reaction to this question is to answer: No, of course not! But reality is completely different from what we imagine it to be. The human being is not as balanced as hed like to think, and if we observe his behavior with a psychological eye, he is even absurd in many ways.

Craziness has many levels and assumes various shapes. It is often difficult for us to tell the difference between craziness and logic, mainly because the human being is crazy from birth. His conscience is fundamentally selfish and filled with absurd tendencies. His wild primeval conscience is still alive, waiting and scheming to destroy its human counterpart to take its place.

So, the truth about him is ignored until discovered and distorted once known. He cannot judge his behavior in an objective manner. What appears logical to him, because he has observed it throughout his environment, may in fact be totally absurd; regardless of the fact that it might be accepted and adopted by everyone.

Another intriguing point is that the human being cant control his own behaviour as easily as hed like to. He only occasionally succeeds and when he does, its often situational.

Though he may not really wish to behave irrationally, when confronted by an appropriate stimulation, he often responds in conflicting fashion. He adopts ancient behavioural patterns in a chain reaction, forged from predefined behavioural structures found within the mechanism through which he learns about his environment and replies to offending stimuli.

To control his behavior, he must go through an arduous and dangerous psychological process of self awareness; better known as a profound introspection.

When I first began studying crazy behaviour through dreams decoding, I realized, among other things, that vanity is, in fact, a disease that provokes considerable behavioural modification; capable of impeding the development of ones rationalism and ability to self criticise. Vanity can even blind one to ones own mistakes and defects. When submerged in the influence of vanity, one can become ridiculous and hyper sensitive to any perceptible judgment made about ones behaviour; placing too much importance on the image one projects on society, as if ones very life depended on social approval.

Another common disturbance observed in human behavior is the strange tendency to interrupt a serious and important conversation to make trivial observations about something totally insignificant. This interruption reveals a serious lack of concentration, common sense and worse still; a severe lack of sensitivity and sensibility.

Recurrent repetition in conversations is so common that we dont even pay attention to it. We repeat some sentences so frequently that we appear to be less focused than monkeys, with an IQ below that of the primate.

You must think that my statements are simple minded or stupid, dont you? Tell me then, how can you differentiate stupidity from craziness? Perhaps one is simply the logical consequence of the other

Now, we enter into chaos, and this disorder is but one that concerns our psychical world there are more!

So, I dont know how youd answer if someone asked you if you were crazy. Perhaps youd reply as before, to avoid being misunderstood; but deep down inside, you might fear the true answer to this question

Antidepressant Side Effects - What You Need to Know

Depression Help Comments Off

Antidepressant side effects can be quite serious for some patients, so it\’s important to learn about all the potential adverse reactions before taking any medication to treat depression. Although most people only experience a few mild, short-lived problems, these drugs can cause more serious health complications in some patients.

The most common side effects of antidepressants include blurred vision, dry mouth, skin rashes, drowsiness or insomnia, constipation or diarrhea, weight gain or loss, urinary retention, sexual dysfunction, anxiety, nervousness or agitation. More serious, adverse side effects are evidenced by seizures, heart attack, stroke or inflammation and/or toxicity of the liver.

Combining antidepressant drugs can cause death. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) must never be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) as it can be a lethal mix. If you are treating your depression by taking MAOIs you also need to avoid smoked, fermented and pickled foods and certain beverages. It is obvious that if you are going to use an antidepressant side effects must be taken into account and you must be aware of all the risks.

For many people, the side effects of antidepressants can be managed by adjusting the dose. If the problem can be treated with a lower dosage, it follows that the negative reactions you may be experiencing will be reduced to some degree. As we mention above, the most common issues tend to resolve themselves after a few days or perhaps a week so keep that in mind. Of course, if it is something that persists or something that you can\’t tolerate, make sure you speak with your doctor to see if he or she recommends lowering the dosage or perhaps switching to another medication.

Because of all of the potential antidepressant side effects, more and more people are turning to natural options such as 5-HTP, SAMe, ginkgo and other supplements. Some of these have been shown in clinical studies to help alleviate depression, anxiety and stress, and might be a viable alternative to pharmaceutical drugs for some people.

If you are contemplating taking pharmaceutical drugs to alleviate depression, take the time to research the side effects of antidepressants. The information is readily available and you need to be informed before you make a choice involving serious potential risks.

Before deciding on any treatment options, discuss the problem with your doctor. He or she will help you decide if medication is right for you, or if perhaps a natural alternative can help treat your depression.

Antidepressant Depression Treatments

Depression Help Comments Off

Antidepressant Depression treatments are very effective in treating depressive symptoms. There are classes of these medications and each class works in their own way on the chemicals in the brain thought to control mood. Each one also comes with its own set of side effects as well.

Classes of Antidepressant Depression Treatments

Trycyclic antidepressants affect the levels of two neuro-transmitters in the brain; Serotonin and Norepinephrine. This class has the most serious side effects and if used it is only for the most serious of cases. It is not the first choice of action.

MAOIs - monomine oxidase inhibitors is an early form of anti-depressant. These drugs are often used for patients who do not respond to other treatments. They are also effective in the treatment of other mental illnesses. Those who are taking these drugs are kept on a strict diet because there may be negative interactions with particular foods.

SSRIs - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors is a newer form of anti-depressant. They work by changing the amounts of Serotonin in the brain. This class has fewer side effects and is generally well tolerated. Lower doses of these drugs mean less intolerance.

SSNRIs - Selective Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors work slightly differently. These drugs increase the amounts of Serotonin and Norepinephrine that are available to the brain.

Newer classes have been and are being developed. One class is called Atypical Cyclics. This class included the drugs Desyril and Wellbutrin. Booster drugs are a new trend. They are drugs that are given along with a primary anti-depressant to enhance the primary drug\’s effects.

Though many of the newer classes of drugs have fewer side effects than older antidepressants, they are not without their side effects. Many people want to avoid such serious reactions. There is an increasing trend to more natural types of Depression treatments. Herbal supplementation is one natural treatment.

Conclusion

In the herbal supplements, specific herbs known to affect mood are blended with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutritive substance to enhance their effect on your mood. To ensure the safety, potency, and efficacy of the supplement, they should have been put through rigorous testing: the metabolic paths of the ingredients are tested at the molecular level and the interactions of the ingredients will have been tested as well. The most effective supplements are made to pharmacy grade.

Adolescences Suicide - Tips to Prevent: Part 2

Depression Help Comments Off

Role of Parent, Teachers and Friends

In my previous attention drawing assignment, I tried to share a few common problems, but today without diverting from key approach, I would dwell upon various other issues of tomorrows teenagers. In this computer savvy world, whereas new technologies have made insurmountable progresses in communication on one side; it has drastically widened the communication gap between parent, teachers and teenagers on the other. Though it has reduced large geographical distances at the press of a button of mobile phones, but unfortunately it has created a very wide breach between growing thoughts of a teen and mature guidance of parents. With these contemplations, I am going to identify people responsible for teenagers suicide, deliberate various types of stress and anxiety related pressures acting on teenagers mind and various obvious cumulative slip-ups of all.

Let me first discuss various people responsible for teenagers suicide. Invariably and obviously, the first person who is to be blamed would be parent; second teachers; third the friends in need and not of deed, and four some other wrong step for which teen got fascinated due to immature conduct and went astray. The irresponsible conduct of parents contributed towards 75 percent, teachers 30 percent, friends 4.8 percent and other reasons were just below .2 percent.

Why parent, despite loosing their child share entire culpability blame? The irrefutable evidences heard from such parents quote Oh! I have killed my child? Had I paid attention —-? In most of the cases, the parents had invariably abetted their teenagers suicide. I do not mean that they willfully led their child to take extreme step but due to sheer ignorance and lack of time to devout has driven the child to take away his own life. The important lapses identified after study reflects;

one lack of time to devout to child,
\r two lack of care at home,
\r three communication gap between parent and the child,
\r four over commitment of parents on business or official matters,
\r five lack of will to listen to child,
\r six frequently admonishing child when he wants parents attention and on ignorable errors,
\r seven unwilling to listen to your teen when he wants parent most,
\r eight careless handling and managing your teens demands through servant or third person,
\r nine Ask Papa/Mummy, I am too busy Syndrome,
\r tenth lack of will to interact with teens teachers, tutors or coaches,
\r eleventh a few over committed parents tendency to outweigh love, affection and personal touch and feelings with bundles of money,
\r Twelfth and most important is overambitious parent. Most of the unfortunate parents whose teenagers had committed suicide had neglected their child, thereby, contributing towards suicide.

In addition to parents, how teachers play an unviable role in draconian problem of abetting suicide of my teenagers is a real question to investigate. Three important factors were observed while interacting with teachers.

First is the lack of personal touch and commitment amongst teachers in their noble cause towards society. A large number of teachers, to continue their other professional activities, just do not dedicate enough time to students. They place heavy demand of home work. Many times, I have observed that various teachers have themselves failed to solve a problem but they dictated the same to students to solve at home. Such crook teachers are more over a terror in schools.

The second factor is accredited towards wide communication gap between teachers and students. As most of teachers have Select Favorite Student Preferences (SFSP) syndrome, therefore, by and large such teachers neglect other students. Such teachers are really a blob on adverse conditions of todays teens. They encourage tendency of isolation and separation amongst weak students.

Third and the foremost factor, I unearthed is careless, negligent and ineffectual teachers. Though various organizations have honored hundred of teachers in the world but in most of the cases, such teachers managed to hoodwink the entire society. As most of the teachers are employed on nepotism, they lack will to work. In one of the students suicide case, I found that had the teacher been approachable and not the terror, the teenager would have not taken extreme step of ending his life. The readers would agree with me that the role of teachers in abetting suicide is further going to increase in future materialistic world. The teachers would be continuously blamed for such lapses till they change their mind and differentiate between education as a Business or a social obligation. The teachers community is to be regularly sensitized towards their ever increasing challenge of teenagers suicide.

After parents and teachers, the next person who abets a teenagers suicide is untimely identified his friends in need and not of deed. Such friends who always eye for personal enjoyment are most dangerous. The rich, neglected and disturbed teenagers frequently fall pray to such friends. They began to share their problems with commoners, less studious and aimless friends. An ignored adolescence gets easily carried away by such friends gossip and ever supporting thoughts, thereby, lending in trouble. Either such teenagers fall pray to drug peddlers or take up petty crimes to fulfill their unaffordable lavish life styles. Most of the teens in the world, took to crime due to neglect at home and school. It is parents prime responsibility to ensure that their children do not fall pray to such friends. Why I said friends in need and not in deed because most of the time such friends always looked at opportunity to exploit his ever neglected friends his financial liberty.

Another cause which had cumulative effect is a teenagers hatred Behaviour towards parents, teachers and environment. Such teenagers strongly feel neglected and thus they want to punish their parents. Sometimes, a few teenagers themselves set certain own goals to achieve and make their family satisfied. When they could not meet such goals, they took such drastic steps. Despite of best care and love, I find my daughter Shruti had also tried to injure herself. She took a fight with the God and tried to exhibit resentment towards supernatural power. She refused to accept the existence of God and began to loose faith in herself. She felt so because, she believed that my parents had an ambition which she had to fulfill. When she found some problems, she took up fight with the God thereby exhibiting lack of self confidence. During interaction, when we convinced her that our aim is not to credit what you became but our aim is to make you a good human being she understood and calmed down. During interaction, she herself disclosed her mind, thereby, making us to handle her problem with an open mind. I made her to believe that what we want is to make a good human being. What you achieve is to our credit. My only guidance is to work hard, put in efforts and do all activities under sound state of mind. If you have performed well but could not make a grade, think that all other students have worked hard and put in extra efforts then you, that is why they faired better? Why to blame yourself for others hard work or excellence? She understood and began to prepare normally for studies and topped with 94 percent grade. The important aspect is of faith of your child in the parents, teachers, friends and others including neighbors and relatives.

After having analyzed various factors I recommend following common remedial measures
\r Parents to interact daily with child minimum for an hour or so.
\r All family member to make an effort to have minimum one meal breakfast, lunch or dinner together at dining table or common place.
\r Minimum one outing of house with teenagers with family elders.
\r Continuous interaction during examinations.
\r Father to ensure regular talk with children.
\r Teachers should carryout individual counseling of such students once a month
\r Teachers should pay special attention to weak students
\r Parents and teachers to keep an eye on children activities outside school hours.
\r Parents should rely less on money love than personal care
\r Parents to make their children believe that they have full faith in them.

With this I conclude my analysis of responsibilities of various people who abet the suicide of their teenagers. If we weigh and reevaluated our needs, desires and worldly comforts with that of our teens lives, I am sure that the world would be able to celebrate year 2007 the Suicide Free Teenagers Years 2007 (SFTY-007). I would further analyze the various stresses and other disturbances in teens mind when he find neglected at home and school. What are the important visible signs and indicators that help parents and teachers to identify such teenagers and take extra care to save their precious lives? In my next part I would also touch upon as to why girls teenagers are more prone to suicide than boys. Part 3 to follow shortly and readers invaluable comments are solicited.

At the end and before I proceed, further let me convey my esteem Ezine readers a very happy and prosperous year 2007 ahead. I am also very optimistic that with these dedicated efforts, the teens suicide would stop. I request my teens that whenever you are under duress, please feel free to seek help rather than ending life. You can call any teen helpline. I am very hopefully dedicating the year 2007 as Suicide Free Teenagers Year -007 (SFTY-007) and hope the year would pass without a single teenagers suicide.

Types Of Bipolar Disorder How To Differentiate Them Correctly

Depression Help Comments Off

Unknown to many, there are two main types of bipolar disorder, namely Bipolar I Disorder and Bipolar II Disorder. The key difference between the two disorders is whether the person has had a manic episode or not. To distinguish the differences, one would have to understand manic episodes and depressive episodes symptoms of Bipolar disorder.

The symptoms of a manic episode are magnified self-esteem, reduced need for sleep, chattiness, racing thoughts or flight of ideas, distractibility, increase in goal-directed activity, and extreme superfluous involvement in pleasurable activities such as wild shopping or sexual indiscretions that might have negative potential consequences.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV) of the American Psychiatric Association, if a person experiences a mood disturbance such as unexplained, persistent euphoria along with three or more of those symptoms for at least one week and it is affecting their ability to function well and be productive, they are having a manic episode. If these symptoms are caused by drug abuse or a medical condition, such as hyperthyroidism, then they are not considered to be indication of a manic episode.

The symptoms of a depressive episode are a persistent depressed mood, diminished or total absence of pleasure and happiness, weight loss or weight gain, insomnia or increased need for sleep, observable restlessness or slow body movement, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, reduced ability to think or concentrate, and recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.

If someone is experiencing five of the symptoms of depression for at least two weeks, and at least one of those symptoms such as a depressed mood or loss of interest in pleasurable activities, they are having a depressive episode. These symptoms should cause significant distress or impairment and not be caused by drug abuse or a medical condition in order to count towards the criteria for a depressive episode.

To look at the two types of bipolar disorder closely. A person is said to have Bipolar I Disorder if he has ever experience at least one manic episode together with depression episodes. For Bipolar II Disorder, the person must experience only one or more depression episode with at least one episode of hypomania, but without manic episodes. The difference between the two disorders is that a person with Bipolar I Disorder must experience manic episode whose symptoms are describe as above.

It is not usually for someone to mistake the type of bipolar disorder as a grading based on the severity of the symptoms. This is not true as Bipolar I Disorder and Bipolar II Disorder differ on the experiencing of manic episodes. It is more of a classification based on the degree to which the mania occurs than on the level of impairment the disorder causes.

Bipolar disorder affects individuals differently. Taking a sample of people who have been diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, you will find a large spectrum of varied levels of impairment, distress, and adaptation to the disorder. The same is true for those who suffer from Bipolar II Disorder.

If you know anyone or even yourself have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and have questions about this mental illness. You should speak with your doctor and find out more. Educate yourself about bipolar disorder and how it affects you and family members is an important step towards recovery and health.
