Before you go looking for a Business Intelligence solution you need to ask yourself "What problem am I trying to solve?" and "What is the best way for my users to leverage Business Intelligence?"
By asking yourself these questions like these you can avoid the following five common mistakes that organizations make when implementing a Business Intelligence strategy:
1. Not setting up project structures in place to ensure there is senior level support and a cross functional team in place to address Business Intelligence strategically.
2. Not focusing as much on data quality issues as user Business Intelligence tool s themselves in evaluation.
3. Not focusing on purchasing the right amount of Business Intelligence to meet their needs. Organizations either spend too little or too much for the benefit that they hope to achieve.
4. Not taking the time to understand their processes in advance, as well as understanding from your users how they would like to engage in Business Intelligence is it through visualizations or dash boards or reports for example where they could achieve real benefit apart from what they have to work with.
5. Why Business Intelligence is used to empower more and more users in the organization not enough security safe guards are often put in place around who has access to all that new found insight.
The power of Business Intelligence is great, but only in the right hands. Keep the above in mind and it may save you time, money and aggravation as you continue to grow your business.
